This is great as a dessert or for breakfast with a little granola mixed in. Because of the sour flavor of the creole cream cheese, you may want to mix it with a tablespoon or two of honey to bring up the sweetness (a 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla is another option).

Classic Combinations
Peaches & Cream
Sliced peaches with a dollop of creole cream cheese from Smith Creamery. Whatever you do, I suggest going heavy on the peaches and easy on the cream cheese.

Evacuees Eat no Veggies
Last night, safe and sound in our home, Lindsay remarked over a plate of spaghetti and meatsauce, "I haven't, nor have I seen you, eat a veggie in about a week."
Wow. She was absolutely correct. One day in Jackson we went to a quick service deli and had salads, but that has been about it for the leafy, stuff since before the Palin announcement. Let's be honest evacuation requires one to live on things like pretzels, fast food, and beer. Lots of beer. So how can one remedy this situation?
Well, the grocery stores are working with limited resources but are coming back on line. However, you could and should go to the Crescent City Farmers Market this Saturday. Creole Tomatoes, squash, zucchinis, and okra for the veggies, maybe some peaches or pears for some fruit, Smith for Dairy, and hopefully some of Mr. Justin Pitts meat. Meat should not be discarded in favor of vegetables, just supplemented.
The market is on the corner of Girod and Magazine in the CBD. I like to go around 9 am. This Saturday, the market producers will give out free coffee. And dont worry this market has no traces of the self-important farmers markets that litter the nation (for good or bad). It is fresh produce, nice people, and a chance to keep money in the local economy. And fear not exclusive users of the Debit system, the Market has this amazing magic trick where they turn plastic into wooden nickels.
And why not?

Does it have to be Monday...
Peter, that is a tougher act to follow than Obama's coronation speech last night. But here goes...
Breakfast: Morning Call, but since that would require driving instead I think I would go to Camelia Grill and start my day with a Cheeseburger with grilled onions, cheese fries, and a chocolate milkshake. Why? Because its my last fu*king day in New Orleans.
Lunch: Liuzza's. Fried Onion Rings. Fat Kid Special. 4-5 Schooners of beer. 2 Bushwackers and a United Cab, preferably with a cab account.
Snack: Mila. A Mint Julep from Chris McMillan and an order of sweetbreads with truffle grits.
Dinner: In between lunch and snack, I went home and braised some fatty short ribs in red wine and aromatics. Served on top of mashed potatoes loaded with as many Smith Dairy products I can get my hands on. Lindsay and I eat and drink a bottle of 2005 Chateau la Nerthe. I open a second bottle, pour Lindsay a glass I know she wont finish, and watch Nash Roberts tell me everything is going to be ok.
Late Night Snack: F&M's Cheese Fries.
