Abita Satsuma Wit

Lots of hype surrounding this new seasonal brew from Abita, so I thought that I should crack open a few and let you know what I think. It's a wheat beer that I would group in the same category as Shock Top or Blue Moon. The results of our blind tasting below:

Peter: Eh. Kind of disappointing. Not nearly as good as Strawberry. I give it a par.
The Folk Singer: I like it.
Rene: I heard it sucks.

Let us know what you think. Happy Monday.

I was literally JUST ABOUT to write a post about it. I was so excited to try it as I think I singlehandedly boosted satsuma sales this year (a bag of 12 being my "hold me to dinner" snack),but found it really gross and tasting nothing like satsumas. If someone gave it to me in a blind taste test and asked me to name the fruit, I would have said banana.

I don't understand why the Strawberry beer comes out in Strawberry Season, but the Satsuma Ale comes out in Summer?

Buehler, Buehler...

i put a generic "not liking this" as my FB status and got the antpile kicked over with a flood of people responding in kind. Swing and a miss on this one.

I thought it was pretty good. Nothing special, but tasty. Strawberry was definitely the better seasonal brew in my opinion.

I HATE Abita's strawberry beer. I, too, tried the satsuma brew this weekend. I liked it better than the strawberry beer, but like non-Abita blueberry beer best of the "Berry Beers." It holds NO candle to Blue Moon or Hoegaarden. Drinkable? Yes. Something you'd want to be sure to have on stock in the fridge? No.

But, my mother-in-law, who lives in Ohio and adores all things satsuma, will LOVE this beer. So there IS a market for it, albeit a small one.
