Roman Pizza

Roman Pizza was brought to Blackened Out's attention a few weeks ago when Peter asked who had the best pizza in the city. While I am not here to definitively answer that question, Roman's certainly belongs in the debate.

Crust - Good structure, bready but not doughy, pliable and crispy.

Sauce - Light and tangy, scattered across the dough rather than meticulously applied.

Toppings - Fresh, looks like cut in house, large, and well-dispersed.

Cheese - A bit toothsome but nicely browned.

Misc. - Look at the box. See the little puddles of grease? That is what you want to see sometimes. Goes perfect with cold beer. And they deliver.

There is an old Armenian saying, "There is no such thing as bad pizza, just stupid people." If that is the case, prove how smart you are and try Roman's soon.

The Bucktown pizza scene has been hot lately. Mama Mea's, the old Dive Shop on Lake Ave., has been putting out some solid pies. Personally, I've always been partial to the R&O pizza. It's sometimes hard to order when either you are in a rush, with others in a rush, or feel like some of their other items. But if you can find the time to sit down and eat it, you won't be disappointed. You can order it takeout as well if you're on the go.

Thanks for giving Roman's the credit it deserves. Their hamburger and onion pizza got me through many a hangover.

Wow, I didn't even know this existed, and it is apparently within walking distance of my house! Thanks for adding to my list of places to try!

I haven't had a Roman Pizza in years...it used to be extremely cheap, with ridiculous 2-for-1 specials. I recall the crust as a tad too bready.

Roman's spinach pizza was my primary source of vegetables during college. Couldn't have graduated without it.

Also, as good as Roman's is warm, it's the best pizza ever when it's cold. Cold Roman's Pizza and coffee is the breakfast of champions.
